The Power of Visual Content

A Picture is worth a thousand words.

Make that 60,000. Visual information is processed 60,000 times faster than text in your brain (Wishpond). When you incorporate images into your marketing mix, you’ll be able to communicate more information faster – more value for your consumer!

What’s more? The average consumer attention span is only 8 seconds. Not only do you need to grab their attention, you need to keep it – and tell them everything they need to know in 8 seconds or less.

Which sign is quicker to understand? The two-word message is simple, but your brain processes the image above in much less time than it takes to read those two words.

Engagement

Instagram, Pinterest, Snapchat are all dedicated to image based content. Over 20 Billion (yes, billion, with a B) photos have been shared on Instagram so far, and Snapchat users send 400 million snaps per day (Digital Insights). The image below shows an example of a Pinterest Board – notice how the page is primarily visual content, with very little plain text.

Even the major players, Facebook, Twitter, and Google +, have made new efforts to embrace the prominence of visual content. Photos are the primary type of content posted and shared on Facebook, and accounted for 75% of content posted by Facebook pages worldwide (Social Media Examiner) – and they have more engagement!

On Facebook, photos produce 53% more likes, 104% more comments, and 84% more clickthroughs than the average post (Hubspot).

Photos also increase retweets by 35% (Social Media Examiner). A recent Twitter update changed how photos and images are displayed on your profile, making it even easier for users to post and interact with photos and videos.
